Ibiza one week, Sam’s@TheBay
on Crinnis Beach the next and you know what? It didn’t feel very different.
Right on the beach with staggering sea views? Check. Perfectly cooked moules mariniere and chips to go? Check. Mojitos with just the right amount of edge to blur you into summer holiday euphoria. Yep, that too.
We’ve long been fans of Sam’s, a growing band of restaurants in Cornwall which specialise in excellent food in laid back, cool settings but the new outpost on Carlyon Bay is something very different.
Even huddled under an awning with our burgers and beers on a typically drizzly Cornish summer’s day, we felt happy.
This stretch of beach just outside St Austell is undergoing a massive regeneration – by next summer there will be pop up restaurants, a water sports centre and a beach club.
The new Sam’s beach shack is first to test the water and of course they’ve done it brilliantly.
By day there are lots of tables, some under cover and huge bean bags to lounge upon and a bar serving takeaway burgers, mussels, handcut chips, couscous, artisan beer. There’s spot on coffee too and breakfast baps, so this is just the right place for an early morning swim.
At night there are DJs and fire pits and strong cocktails to keep you warm. What’s not to love? Cornwall just got even better.
