The Reluctant Landlady Falls in Love ...

We have just celebrated the first year anniversary of The Day They Took The Skip Away And Didn’t Replace It With An Empty One. And soon we will celebrate the first year anniversary of the B&B Being Open for Business.

And in between these two special days we will spend a good three weeks celebrating Christmas, New Year and the logburner.  I promised myself I wouldn’t go on about the logburner but really, seriously, get one. Wherever you live, however you can. No room indoors? Not to worry pop one outside against a wall and make the family sit around it in their puffa jackets. Already have one? Get another. Am seriously saving to pop a cute little pot boiler version in the B&B with one of those quirky flues and a big sheepskin rug at its feet. Ok so they do cost a bit to buy and install but once in and flaming away our oil catastrophe of December 2012 has been downgraded to a small crisis. Almost fondly remembered by the children as the time they wore all their clothes to bed. My twitch has calmed right down since I can chuck logs and bank statements into a cast iron burner and create a hazy orange glow in the kitchen.  No matter how poor we dip in and out of we can still light it. So as we head to Christmas I am overly excited at the prospect of the photo opportunities once we hang all the stockings up above it. And the chair I am going to drag to it to drink my mulled cider from and hold my tired old feet up to. And those pesky kids, cheeks flushed from the warmth, scrabbling around for the advent calendar chocolate. And friends popping by and standing too close to it. And me getting very territorial and shooing everyone out of the kitchen so I can pop back in the chair just for a minute….just a Christmas moment…. PS. Haven’t even had time to tell you about my latest love – the free second hand dishwasher recently installed…
