No time for a summer holiday this year. Too too busy celebrating all the big stuff like the Husband’s 50th birthday (one of those high maintenance masquerading as low maintenance ‘no fuss’ declarations), several further birthdays including my teeny still in my 40’s thing, lovely friends getting married, festival trip, London mini break, village show and fully booked B&B we need to manage. Who has time to fly off somewhere else to have a good time? Jolly well not us I say to the children. Have got most of them fooled but not Eldest Son who is bereft and keeps mentioning India or Copenhagen or anywhere he can get on a plane to. The Daughter is concentrating on the summer reading challenge (thank you brilliant local library) and the ice cream eating challenge (a personal goal). Youngest Son doesn’t much care as long as he can kick a football wherever he goes and pick his nose in peace. The real truth of our staycation is due to further home improvements. But who wants to hear that when right now we could be in Ibiza Old Town market or trekking through the Himalayas like some of our pals. Am focusing the kids on appreciating our local area (lucky them they have beaches and sea) and am counting down the days until I get a kitchen tap that doesn’t have to be held up to be used and a complete ceiling without gaping hole to the joists above. In the meantime if you need me I will be focusing on my summer cocktail challenge. Happy holidays to you all.
