Hard, hard, hard to limit ourselves to just three but here goes… The Long Room
Glorious artisan homeware haven with impeccable taste, vivid colour, exquisite handiwork and feelgood credentials. This small shop is crammed with Mexican textiles transformed into homeware such as lamps, throws or wall hangings, ceramics from Portugal and France, glassware from Milan. The Long Room supports womens co-operatives from Mexico and uses local labour with a strong emphasis on female craft-workers. Shop hard and feel good about it afterwards. Messums Wiltshire
The oldest tithe barn in the UK now converted into a gargantuan art space which lends itself to everything from contemporary dance to its current display of super cars such as the Alfa Romeo and the Lamborghini. A thought-provoking ground breaking space which celebrates the handmade. Fabulous coffee and cakes and a reglar calendar of workshops, talks and events. The Beckford Bottle Shop
Those boys at the Beckford know a thing or two about wine and we’re incredibly happy to have this little wine shop fetching up on our doorstep, the very antithesis of that soul-destroying supermarket experience. There are tastings at weekends with charcuterie from the Tisbury deli and you can often try before you buy – wine for every taste and budget including a kickass pale as you like rose for under a tenner. Craft ale and cider here too. Buy booze for your summer party and they’ll lend you glasses and wine chillers to go with. What’s not to like.
